The mission of the Publications Committee of the American Pediatric Surgical Association is to review and edit all submitted manuscripts from the annual national meeting for the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. We review all submissions by a minimum of 2 committee members and one chair review to give an equitable and fair review process. The review process occurs in 4 basic phases: 1. A pre-meeting review by several committee members with individually submitted reviews, then 2. A round-table presentation and discussion of the manuscript at the meeting 3. The post-meeting phase generating summaries of the group discussion generated by the chair. These support the recommendation of the committees for acceptance, revision or rejection. Recommendations are communicated back to the corresponding author(s) for their response. 4. Finally, there is a tertiary review to ensure that the edits have been incorporated or addressed by the authors prior to submitting to Journal of Pediatric Surgery for publication. The committee has a longstanding code of conduct to avoid any perception of bias by asking members to recuse themselves if there is potential for conflict of interest. The committee also reviews the submission process annually to optimize the process and to facilitate the ease of submission and editorial review. Goals are to ensure that the most current standards for publication are maintained, maintain equitable standards of review for all submissions, and maintain high standards of publication associated with the Annual meeting. These recommendations are submitted to the APSA president.
