The APSA ExPERT (Exam-based Pediatric surgery Educational Reference Tool) CME platform can be used to earn MOC CME credits, as an information resource, as a real-time, point-of-care knowledge reference or all of the above. See below for a list of ExPERT Courses.

The ExPERT continuing medical education program is an innovative platform designed to help practicing pediatric surgeons incorporate the available medical literature into the care of their patients. It addresses maintenance of certification (MOC) needs and the scope of the core competencies as defined by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).

The ExPERT platform is optimized for use on your desktop or laptop computer, tablet or smartphone – you can even pause a course started on one device and finish it later on another.

For the best user experience, access ExPERT using the CHROME or Safari browser.

ExPERT Courses

Pre-Created Courses

  • Spaced Learning Program
Based on the adult learning principle that repetition aids in retention, the ExPERT Spaced Learning Program (SLP) provides subscribers with two MOC CME-eligible questions every week via an email link. One question is based on a previously discussed topic and one question covers new material. This service is provided for ExPERT subscribers only and not available for individual token purchasers.
  • PSSAP
The Pediatric Surgery Self-Assessment Program is designed to provide pediatric surgeons with a broad-based educational experience using the current literature. Each issue provides a series of MOC CME-eligible questions that include an evidence-based discussion and references. PSSAP covers the core competencies of pediatric surgery as defined by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).
  • Evidence Reviews
This program is designed to provide a concise, clinical problem-based review of the current evidence for a selected topic. Organized by questions encountered during real life clinical experiences, this program helps pediatric surgeons incorporate the latest available evidence into their practice while obtaining MOC CME credit.
  • Literature Reviews
Answer MOC CME-eligible questions based on literature reviews created by the APSA Outcomes & Evidence-based Practice, Cancer, Trauma, Ethics and Surgical Critical Care Committees. The literature reviews are emailed to APSA members, and some data can also be found on the APSA website.
  • Annual Meeting
Answer MOC-CME eligible questions based on educational and scientific sessions from the most recent APSA annual meeting. Meeting attendance is not required for exam participation.

User-Generated Courses

  • Custom Courses
Users may design their own MOC CME courses based on keyword searches. This allows for efficient point-of-care CME as well as topic specific (e.g., trauma) courses for those requiring specific subject-based CME.
  • Random Courses
Users may ask the system to generate eight-question MOC CME courses based on randomly selected questions from the ExPERT system.

You can still print your old PSSAP certificates for CME or MOC earned on the previous platform. Use this link to log in and print certificates for completed PSSAP exams.
