Dr. Daniel Hays

(1919 - 2016)

Daniel Hays, MD, was a Charter Member of APSA.

Dr. Hays was a renowned pediatric cancer specialist “More than any one individual, Dan Hays helped set the standard for the specialty of modern pediatric cancer surgery,” said Dr. Stuart E. Siegel, former head of the Division of Hematology/Oncology and director of the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Hays served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1941 to 1947 and practiced at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In 2004, he received the William E. Ladd Medal, awarded by the American Academy of Pediatrics to a pediatric surgeon who has made a significant contribution to the field of surgery.

No funeral services are planned. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Children’s Oncology Group Foundation, 3720 Spruce St., No. 506, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
