Whit Holcomb Named JPS Editor-in-Chief

George “Whit” Holcomb, III, MD, MBA, has been selected as the new editor-in-chief of the Journal of Pediatric Surgery (JPS). Whit is a long-time APSA member and has served on a variety of APSA committees. He is the Katharine Berry Richardson Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine and Surgeon-In-Chief at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He has held a variety of editorial positions on journals including the JPS, European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy and the Journal of Laparoendoscopic and Advanced Surgical Techniques.

I want to thank David Powell, MD, for assuming the herculean task of interim editor-in-chief. His diligence kept the presses oiled and running smoothly after the loss of Jay Grosfeld. David will work with Whit until the transition is complete in March 2017.

The selection process consisted of an international review committee presenting a slate of candidates to Elsevier, publisher of the JPS, which made the final choice. The review committee included the APSA Board, David Powell, and members of the JPS editorial board.

Best regards,
Diana L. Farmer, MD
APSA President
