Figure 6: A newborn with gastroschisis with a preformed silo in place. The silo has a flexible ring at the bottom which is inserted inside the abdomen while the intestines sit inside of the bag. The bag is made smaller little by little which causes the intestines to go back into the abdomen. Once they are back in, the silo is removed and the muscle and skin closed over the hole in the abdomen.
